The Genomic Education Programme holds a regular Nursing and Midwifery Round Table meeting. This report detail the outcomes from the meeting held in April 2021.
Experts and leaders from within the nursing and midwifery community received updates on progress made in the implementation of genomics into nursing and midwifery education, training and practice, which included:
- Welcome and introductions: Lord Willis of Knaresborough
- National update: Prof Mark Radcliffe, Health Education England interim chief nurse and NHS England and NHS Improvement deputy chief nursing officer
- Update on the NHS Genomic Medicine Service: Prof Dame Sue Hill, NHS England and NHS Improvement chief scientific officer
- Integrating genomics into nursing and midwifery practice: Prof Janice Sigsworth, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust director of nursing
- Update from the Genomics Education Programme: Alison Pope, Programme Manager, HEE Genomics Education Programme
- Genomics and counselling skills for nurses: Prof Aniko Varadi, Director for Centre for Research in Biosciences University of the West of England and Melanie Watson, Education and Training Lead, South West Genomic Laboratory Hub
- Update on Genomics for Undergraduate and Nursing Competencies: Dr Edward Miller,Senior Education and Development Officer, HEE Genomics Education Programme
- Genomics Education Programme and Institute of Health Visitors collaboration to develop good practice points: Sally Shillaker, Professional Development officer, Institute of Health Visiting and Dr Jessica Myring, Principal Genetic Counsellor, Leicester Clinical
