Whole Genome Sequencing: My Family’s Journey
Whole genome sequencing is a powerful and fairly new type of genome sequencing test. One of its most important uses is in trying to find a diagnosis for children who are living without one; children whose condition is believed to be genomic/genetic but haven’t yet had a precise cause identified.
In this film, Claudia Beard tells us about her son, Trent, who has health complications that point towards a genetic cause, but doctors and scientists have so far been unable to find a precise diagnosis. The hope is that whole genome sequencing might help them find it.
This film was developed as part of the programme’s free, open-access online course, ‘Whole Genome Sequencing: Decoding the Language of Life and Health’.
