Using visual communication aids

The visual communication aids (VCAs) linked below are designed to complement discussions with patients during a consultation. Each VCA includes a visual element, a corresponding patient-friendly explanation and definitions of some key words or phrases. The explanation can be used as a basic guide for your conversation. Some explanations may need to be adapted for your patient’s specific scenario.

These VCAs can be printed, or used digitally. Each VCA is arranged on two pages and optimised for double-sided printing. You may wish to give a VCA to your patient as a take-home resource or include it in a letter. In the first instance, it is recommended to talk through the VCA during a consultation.

How can I give feedback?

We would welcome any feedback to ensure that our VCAs are are useful as possible. Please complete this short feedback form if you would like to make any suggestions to improve these resources or for the creation of new ones.
