SHOX deficiency is a genetic condition caused by haploinsufficiency of the SHOX gene, resulting in short stature with marked shortening of the forearm and lower legs. Some individuals also develop an anomaly at the wrist called a Madelung deformity.
Typically the first sign of multiple pituitary deficiency is slow growth. Other features depend on the pituitary hormones affected. It can be acquired (for instance, due to tumour, trauma, surgery or irradiation) or it may have an underlying genomic cause.
