Definition
A series of regulated stages that a cell passes through when it undergoes cell division. This involves the duplication of all the cellular contents (including DNA replication) followed by separation into two identical daughter cells.
Use in clinical context
Disruption of the cell cycle can mean cells divide in an uncontrollable way resulting in conditions such as cancer.
