Definition
The production of a polypeptide sequence from an mRNA transcript.
Use in clinical context
Translation is part of protein synthesis and occurs at the ribosomes where each codon of the mRNA transcript is matched to the corresponding amino acid via tRNA. Sometimes errors are introduced into the polypeptide chain if the tRNA is associated with the wrong amino acid, which can then impact the structure and function of the final protein.
