Genomics at the Health and Care Innovation Expo 2016
The Expo Personalised Medicine Zone will play a major role in showcasing how genomics is transforming how the NHS delivers care
The Health and Care Innovation Expo 2016 will return to Manchester Central on 7th and 8th September 2016 with a focus on the biggest health and care issues as implementation of the NHS Five Year Forward View proceeds.
The Health Education England Genomics Education Programme (GEP) is one of the key partners of the Personalised Medicine Zone. This gives a focus on how a combination of genomics, informatics and other cutting edge technologies will combine to allow the day-to day delivery of more personalised treatment and interventions across the NHS.
The zone will feature a range of information, activities and talks from leading figures in genomics and personalised medicine to show how developments in this area are already leading to life-changing benefits for families with histories of genetic illness, and focusing a huge range of expertise on a vital new area of medicine.
Representatives from Genomics England, NHS England and the GEP will share the key principles and goals within personalised medicine: predicting and preventing disease; giving more precise diagnosis; delivering targeted and personalised treatment; and facilitating a fully participatory role for patients.
Patients who have already joined the 100,000 Genomes Project, along with clinicians and academics from the network of NHS Genomic Medicine Centres, will also tell their stories, with local and national leaders at the zone throughout the two days.
