HEE initiates tender process for Master’s in genomics
HEIs are being invited to tender to provide HEE’s Master’s programme in genomics after a gap in provision was identified
Health Education England’s Genomics Education Programme (GEP) will shortly be initiating a tendering exercise for additional provision for its popular Master’s in Genomic Medicine after identifying a gap in the South West Local Education and Training Board (LETB) area.
This is an exciting opportunity for higher education institutions (HEIs) to engage with and support the ongoing work of the Genomics Education Programme, to upskill and transform the workforce to meet the future ambitions of the NHS. The GEP is looking for providers with a strong track record of providing innovative teaching programmes and delivering excellent research-informed teaching, as well as a proven knowledge and expertise in genomic medicine. Nine institutions have already begun delivering the programme, with over 140 healthcare professionals starting their studies.
Why the South West LETB area?
As a national programme, the GEP receives increasing interest in its Master’s and continuing personal and professional development (CPPD) modules, but for healthcare professionals based in the South West there are geographic challenges to accessing the courses. This tender exercise is looking to tackle this issue and identify direct teaching provision in the region, ensuring full nationwide coverage of the Master’s and CPPD programme.
A full invitation to tender (ITT) will be delivered by mid-November 2015. Successful bidders will be expected to deliver a validated programme for a first cohort beginning in May/June 2016, and a second in autumn 2016.
