New Genomics Learning Passport for Midwives
The Central and South GMSA has developed a new tool for midwives looking to start – or continue – their genomics learning journey
Genomics underpins many aspects of midwifery practice, such as taking a family history, offering screening or initiating tests, and referring for specialist advice. So it’s important that all midwives are able to talk about genomics with confidence.
There is a wide range of learning opportunities available on the Genomics Education Programme website and beyond, whether you are at the start of your genomics learning journey or are looking to build your knowledge further – but it can be difficult to know where to start.
To address this, the Central and South Genomic Medicine Service Alliance (GMSA) has developed the Genomics Learning Passport for Midwives. It is designed to guide midwifery practitioners through three phases of learning:
- the essentials and core concepts that all midwives should know;
- more advanced learning for midwives in specialist roles or those keen to explore genomics further; and
- Master’s level education and clinical resources to support your practice.
