Research and innovation fellowship scheme launched
Nine fellows joined leaders in science and healthcare to officially launch the HEE Genomics research and innovation fellowship scheme
At a reception at the House of Lords in London on Tuesday 30th January 2018, Health Education England’s Genomics Education Programme (GEP) celebrated the official launch of its Genomics Research and Innovation Fellowship Scheme.
The event was hosted by Lord Willis of Knaresborough on behalf of the GEP, and featured presentations from Lord Willis, Genomics England chief scientist Professor Mark Caulfield, GEP scientific director Dr Anneke Seller, and Health Education England chair Sir Keith Pearson.

The fellowship scheme was created to increase the capability and capacity of the current workforce, by giving candidates an opportunity to actively engage with genomics research with the aim of bringing new-found knowledge and skills into practice within the NHS. It was first announced in November 2016 and, after a rigorous 10-month application process, the successful fellows were announced in October 2017.
Fellows will contribute to the work of the GEP and will also become active members of the Faculty of Genomic Medicine. It is hoped that some of the fellows will take part in a webinar for the faculty later in the spring.
